I worked for Arriva for over 16 years. Then due to medical reasons lost my PVC licence. Unfortunately for me I was released from my employment. What's disappointing is the company doesn't appear to care in regards to supporting you in possible other jobs within the company.I feel like all my knowledge experience counted for nothing. I appreciate there might not be any opportunities, but I was still employed by Arriva for 16 weeks before they terminated my contract so some contact would of been appreciated.Basically I didn't feel valued and obviously easily replaced and there lies the problem when working for this company as a driver. Perhaps it's a curtural thing which reflects high staff turnover.
Free family bus pass
Meal breaks & shift patterns.
the bosses don't listen to the drivers and your input is not taken into account, timing are tight on the roads and some times long hours bosses are pulling the drivers for the least little thing and never on the drivers side the man is in the right
I have (and still am) employed at arriva northwest for 5 years as a bus driver. Firstly your only as good as your last bus stop any for of incident will lead you to the office where 9 times out of 10 you'll receive a final written warning or worse, the management cannot wait to sack you time served means nothing. The shifts are grulling 10 hour days with a short meal break also there is no continuity in shifts one day you can start at 10am till 8pm next day be in at 0430am nasty or what? Members of the public are a pain constant moaning about things out of our control for example rush hour traffic making us late etcetera etcetera.
The job as a whole
Driving a bus on routes around the merseyside area, in all traffic and weathers conditions. The one prominent thing I have learnt, is that the people who use our services are so versatile in their needs and expectations. Realizing that they also have different requirements, from the services which we provide to them. Work colleagues, their own world can have an impact on the role, in which this has a snow ball effect on their surroundings. The hardest part of being a bus driver, is being all things to every one.The best thing about the job is going home after a good day.The management and my fellow colleagues have had to face difficulties in a variety of situations. This brings the best in them out and makes arriva what it is,
Good pay and conditions
The shift patterns
