I began as a trainee at arriva, wouldn't advise women to go to dartford garage, steer well clear . The other drivers are mostly nice but the instructor I had was vile, arrogant and a trouble maker. Fortunately a much better job turned up for me.
When it ended
Good set of lads to work with.Operations manager was good but the managers above them do not care about there staff.Arriva say they are investers in people is a load of rubbishLong hours and rubbish payEarly morning to late night shiftsNo family lifeCustomers are horrible most of the timeIt is what you make it. I hated it No back up from inspectors or managers
Customers and shifts, bad upper managers
as a click driver top rate of pay is £9.80. So on average 350 a week for driveing a psv vehicle You don't get paid extra for overtime. You work longer hours then the bus drivers and work more days but get paid less. Normal bus drivers hours are Monday to Friday and get 10.70 and get a £11.00 an hour on Saturday. Early start 9am late finish 8pm. But as a arriva click driver you can stat at 5.30 or finish as late as midnight on busy days. They can and will make you work 10 days straight. Again no over time or late night pay. When u finish you have to lock up the yard. Its unsafe as there have been a number of Robberies at this depo at night and its you by your self at night. A lot of arriva click Drivers are thinking on going on strike soon. Talking to management is like when a pröstitutě says she loves you its all lies to make you feel happy and not so sad about the situation you're in. same can be said about arriva management. They have been a number of anti social behaviour issues on the arriva click. complaints have been submitted but its fallen on deaf ears. At this point u might as well hire out of work nightclub bouncers cuz its all ways arguments and fights with customers. The shifts are beyond normal 9pm finish 5.40am start. Just within the legal amount of rest time. Forget going home just bring a sleeping bag and sleep on the bus(arriva thinking probably). They have showers at the depo .Count yourself lucky if you drop the soap. Because this time it isn't arriva fùćķing you from behind. The Samsung tablets they give you for work - altro...
free bus pass depo has showers so you can clean the dirt that is arriva
long hours low pay low
I've been here 15 years now. Management, Union and colleagues are great to get along with. Buses are fantastic and maintained to the highest standards by the friendly bunch of engineers. Family friendly rota and stress free shifts thanks to plenty of running times.
Avoid if you value your mental health you will be stripped of every last single feeling you have apart from working. They go on like it's the best paid job ever it's not. No amount of money is worth missing out on family time as your bullied into work 13 out if 14 days and even then they will do everything they can to cut down the time your at home and get you back into work. Union is a joke and only helps out the employer hold grudges of previous employees and take it out on other family members. Can only accommodate to a select few drivers who's faces fit when it comes to child care. However couldn't help me out when it came to my disabled son they couldn't even help me with two days to pick him up from nursery and happily had me working when he had important hospital appointments. If your face fits you are laughing aslong as you dont ever say boo to a goose and keep your head buried in the sand Buses constantly breaking down which isnt down to the mechanical side of things because the engineers hands are tied due to the company "saving money" so they can't even fix buses without cost coming into it. Company full of snakes and grasses that will even stalk your facebook to find somthing to get you into the office with. Your made to feel like one tiny incident will cost you your job accidents are bound to happen in this industry. Go through managers like the place has a revolving door. You wont actually get paid what you work and loose around 2500 a month on travelling time and time spent on the road as if you do a 15 hour day you will get paid 9 they don't explain how all - altro...
If you wont to be treated poorly by both managers and customers this is the job for you. Long split shifts 10+ hours a day any shortfalls in your float must be payed out of your own money at the end of your shift. Drunken rude customers daily. Worst 18 months of my life.
The job is easy Management make it difficult the Rotas are not great you have no life they change them every 6 weeks with only given 48 hrs notice. The pay is not good for what you have to put up with. The Buses are not safe they are repaired on a very small budget. You are not valued for the work you do. The only plus is the group of people you work with make it good.
To many to put down it’s stressful and depressing
The buses are poorly maintained, the management sont care about the employees or their well being, constantly overriding the system to break the law by working more hrs/days than you should, always pressured Into doing overtime. Constant management changes, they dont listen to the drivers. It's a very clicky place, face dont fit you'll be bullied out. Buses constantly breaking down. Engineers dont care as long as the wheels go round the bus is fit for service
The business as a very high turn over of staff this is due to shuffeling family life with work life .... it takes a certain type of person to deal with the daily perils the job can offer... there is a grt atmosphere between fellow workers management is a different story... health and safety is paramount yous and towards others although I say this is more a job than a career some do make it there career choice
The people Working here are fantastic mostly but unfortunately it is poorly managed and can be extremely stressful. There is no real pattern in the shifts can be working from 5 am to 12 noon one day then the next starting at 6am and not finishing til 6 pm which makes home life difficult Pay is better than most in the local area
Despite being dismissed from Arriva for a big miss understanding I would go back if I could. The hours are good as you are contracted to 37.5 hours a week, paid even if your rota means you work 35 etc. Arriva are good as they do not rush you to keep to your times (at least at my depot) if you are late you are late it costs them more if you have an accident then it does if you run late, so don’t worry it starts to come to you as you settle. New starters are required to go on the spare sheet and do all the routes, easier if you pick a road when there’s space as you can see what you are working months in advance. Management are a joke, they seem nice and friendly but will literally have you in the office for anything. No support from them to help mistakes not happen in the future, it’s why they have such a high staff turnover. Garage trainer was probably the most helpful person in the building and he still is just a driver who teaches routes, meaning he can’t be there to support people once you’ve learnt all the routes. Join a Union straight away, even though mine gave me incorrect information which left me in a predicament. (Told me I get 2 appeals, turns out I got 1 the day I turned up for my 1st appeal). They are still good to have by your side and are nice people, just under lots of pressure so mistakes bound to happen. Main piece of advice for anyone starting, DO NOT SIGN any paperwork to say you’ve “learnt” something until you are 110% confident as this will be held against you, even if the quality of the training you received was not sufficient - altro...
Thanks for taking the time to read my review. I'd like to start by saying the job itself is good. The colleague's I had where fantastic I've had some great times there. I was working there for 15 years, however the management are the problem. They have a bully boy management style and if your face doesn't fit your screwed.
If your not in the click you will be targeted, if you have a degree of education you wont be liked as the management operate offside and under hand , you will be a threat to them if you have a brain, avoid this company, shifts are a joke, finish at 20.00 hrs then back on duty at 05.30am, not healthy, might be legal but its immoral
long driving hours, unsociable shifts
